A Jyotirlinga (Sanskrit: เคœเฅเคฏเฅ‹เคคเคฟเคฐเฅเคฒเคฟเค™เฅเค—, romanized: Jyotirliแน…ga, lit.โ€‰’lingam of light’) or Jyotirlingam, is a devotional representation of the Hindu god Shiva. The word is a Sanskrit compound of jyotis (‘radiance’) and linga (‘sign’).

And the Jyotirlingas here are believed to have appeared from that infinite pillar of light produced by Lord Shiva.
